FFQF: Benjamin Rush, 'Christocrat'

Founding Father's Quote Friday

Founding Father Benjamin Rush, signer of the Declaration of Independence and “father of American education” (until about 100 years ago) brings things in perspective.

I have been alternately called an aristocrat and a democrat. I am now neither. I am a Christocrat. I believe all power … will always fail of producing order and happiness in the hands of man. He alone who created and redeemed man is qualified to govern him. David Ramsey, An Eulogium Upon Benjamin Rush, M. D., 1813, p. 103

A Christocrat! What an incredible quote! I never heard this one before! I may adopt it as my own! (with appropriate credit to Rev. Rush and my friend, Herky, of course!)

And we do seem to be on the same page today, eh? My post is here:

Blessings to you, my friend.

Thanks, Jean! I didn’t know you never heard this one before from “Rev.” Rush (actually Dr. Rush, though probably would have done well as a reverend).

Yes, we do seem to be on the same page today. Thanks for participating.

Happy FFQF!

I admire Dr. Rush a great deal. Excellent post! But so brief. This is unlike you, Mulligan. Heh.

Mine is a bit scattered… like my day today. But I am punctual!

Thanks for the quote – I’m enjoying my ‘continuing education’ on the Founding Fathers. The thoughts on the FFQF bring life to men who are ordinarily footnotes (if that much) in many of today’s textbooks.
I don’t have a FFQF today – way too stressful of a week to think of anything but how to handle new jobs being added to my job description. Hopefully next week…

“I am a Christocrat” I love it, great quote! Must admit that this is the first time I heard this one as well. Thanks for sharing Herky!

Hello everyone. Thanks for reading and leaving your comments.

Cato — I share your admiration of Rush. I know the post is unusually brief, but, I could not really think of any way to expound upon Rush’s words, than simply by repeating everything I’ve said in all of my FFQF posts all over again!

Thanks for participating. I’m off to reading your post.

Mike — This is an educational experience for me also. I’m glad you enjoy it. I understand that you are busy; I look forward to your post next week though!

Thomas — It is a great quote, and one that’s not “out there” much. I’m glad you like it.

Happy FFQF, everyone!

Sometimes the greatest wisdom, knowledge, and learning are stimulated by breivity.

Well done Sir! This past year I’ve been doing a great deal of writing on a matter I call, “Christophobia” it’s funny how folks fear things.

jps

Hello JP. Thanks for reading and leaving your comment!

It’s a true remark you made about brevity; sometimes, I wish I exercised it more often!

Yes, it is funny how people fear “Christophobia.” That proves that deep inside every man, he knows that it has power and that the Gospel is true!

Thanks again. Happy FFQF!
