Hello Gigi. Welcome to my blog; thanks for reading and leaving your thoughtful comment.

You did very well on the survey (yeah, I think I missed the ringers, too; don't know and don't care much about today's celebrities); it is so encouraging to meet another person who looks on their nation's history as important. It is certainly important that we get this knowledge into the hands of other people. I applaud you for working to do that, and for making a point to instill that knowledge into your children. No one else is more qualified to do that than you are.

I concur with you about the issue of voting. Someone once pointed out that you need to pass a driver's test in order to become a licensed, legal driver. Why then shouldn't you pass a voter's test to become a licensed, legalized voter? But that also raises the question: "Who will oversee such tests?" The government? Heaven forbid!

Thanks again for your comment.

When I saw the article describing the survey and the profoundly disturbing results, I stopped reading and went immediately to the American Revolution Center website to take it myself. It was actually 30 questions if you count the 'ringers' that were thrown in. Now, to bare my soul to strangers, I am ashamed to say that I missed 4. Two of those were ringer questions (don't really care how many kids some reality couple has as long as they can provide for them and couldn't name the olympic athlete with 8 medals). In addition I could not name the Court Justice or (inexplicably) where Valley Forge was located.

I know, I know. Before you discard me completely, let me share that I think it important to own multiple copies of the Constitution and founding documents, as well as supporting works such as "The Rights of Man", in order that I may provide those in need with a personal copy. While I have often referred to them in the past, now more than ever in the daily course of current events!

I have made it a point that my three children visit our nation's capitol and view these documents first hand. They have touched the Alamo, walked Gettysburg and Monmouth, awed the Grand Canyon, both oceans, the gulf, countless battle ships, the Pentagon, Smithsonian and White House and anything of national pride our personal or military travels have taken us. (Never been to Disney though...). With 'feel good' policies like 'no-child-left-behind', educating our children on our national heritage and the framework of our government is obviously not a priority for this administration. And really, is that any surprise? With knowledge and understanding come questions. Uncomfortable, make-you-squirm-in-your-seat, questions that are finally beginning to be asked by what is no longer the silent majority.

There was another survey I saw a few years back. This one was disguised as a political petition. Passerbys on Venice Beach boardwalk were asked to sign in order to 'help end women's suffrage'. It was gut wrenching to see how many did so without ever having a clue to what they were endorsing! These same people get to vote. Hmmmm.....

Currently, I am very curious to see how far Paul's proposal to introduce legislation clarifying the 14th Amendment's interpretation of what constitutes citizenship will get.

I believe that we are going to have to elect all conservatives, who share the views of Alan Keyes and Jim Demint. We need Alan Keyes and Jim Demint Conservatives in office. No more Rinos like Olympia Snow.I know plenty of people are angry with the health care bill.Having a mother in a nursing home it really hits home.

Thanks to all who responded. Glad you could take the time to read this long article.

Michael, welcome to the blog! Thank you for sharing your thoughts. You are right; we do live in a dumbed-down age -- but how exciting it is to get in touch with you, who are one of the many exceptions out there just waiting to be heard.

Fida, glad to hear from you again! I hope you are well and recovered. I am glad that you learned something from my humble article. I find it interesting to learn how people from other countries view America and Americans. Thank you for the links to your sites, I will visit them. When I have read your book (which sounds very exciting) I will let you know. Thanks for keeping in touch.

That is pretty scary.I believe that we have a generation dumed down by shows like "American Idol" and "Dancing with the stars".I remember the other day when I was ringing up a customer and the persons sutff came up to 1776,I said to her "That was the same year our Founders wrote the "Declaration of Independence",she looked at me and said"Is that So,I never knew that".No wonder why we are losing our freedoms in America.
